In Screed & Thin Floor Heating Specification
for Extended Off Peak, Domestic or Time of Use Tariff

(SCS2002)

IMPORTANT:
The Electrical Schedule details Electrical Loadings, Thermostat Types and any other accessories such as Contactors or Time Switches included in the quotation.
Please refer to Thermostat Specification.

The Electrical Schedule/s together with this sheet must be passed on to your Electrical Contractor and all other relevant Trades, before you accept any quotation. This will enable them to furnish you with quotations for any additional work which will be required. Failure to do so may result in extra costs being incurred by you.

General

Any deviflex™/devimat™ quotation is based on the following:

Unless stated elsewhere, In Screed heating requires a 25mm thick screed bed over the heating cables.
A 6mm adhesive bed is recommend for devimat heating systems - or as per manufacturers
recommendations.

  1. When heating cables/mats are to be laid directly on top of hard floors such as concrete, F/C Sheet or existing tiled floors and no waterproofing membrane is being installed, the heating will be fixed in place using either wire mesh, devifast™ fixing strips or glued directly to the floor.

Devifast fixing strips keeping cables secure to the ground cables attached to wire mesh and laid onto existing tiled floor
Cables attached to devifast fixing strips and laid directly onto existing concrete floor Cables attached to wire mesh and laid directly onto existing tiled floor
Devimat laid onto existing concrete floor
Mat laid onto existing concrete floor

  2. Before heating cables/mats can be laid on top of a Timber Floor, a layer of material similar to F/C sheeting at least 1mm thick must be supplied and installed by others. The heating cables/mats will then be laid on top, and fixed in place using either of the methods listed above.

  3. When the heating system is to be installed on a Timber Floor that is exposed underneath, insulation must be installed to the underside of the floor.

  4. If the Heating system has been designed as 'Thin Floor' for use under a Floating Timber Floor or Carpet, heating cables should be covered by a 15mm screed bed, or if using devimat a 6mm approved self levelling compound. All work must be done in accordance with Adhesive and Floor Covering Manufactures Recommendations.

  5. To avoid damage, the heating cables/mats must be covered as soon as possible after they are installed. If wall tiles are to be installed before the floor tiles e.g., Bathrooms, it is recommended that the heating cables/mats be installed after the wall tiles have been fixed.

Electrical
The quoted price includes the design, supply and installation/fixing of the deviflex Heating Cables/devimats only. All Thermostats, Contactors or Time Switches quoted are supplied only, it is the responsibility of the Site Electrician to install and connect them. Contactors are required for individual zones were the loads are greater then the current carrying capacity of the thermostats supplied (see Thermostat Specifications).

Important - Please Note! - Two empty conduits must be installed as follows:-

  • For 'Cold Tails' one 20mm (minimum) empty conduit from the top of the finished concrete to switch or thermostat position with a draw wire, must be provided for the 'cold tails'.

Close up of Conduit Installations

Notice that for each set of Cold Tails (each heating element) an extra conduit has been installed. Also note that the sensor probe conduit is installed between a cable loop.

  • If more than One heating element is specified per zone, a separate empty 20mm conduit must be provide for each additional element. Please refer to the zones and electrical loadings sheet supplied. See notes above for details.

  • For Heating Mats, if more than Two heating mats are specified per zone, an additional empty 20mm (min) conduit must be provided for every additional pair of heating mats installed. See notes above for details.

  • For Sensor Probes a separate empty 10mm-16mm conduit must be installed for the remote sensor probes. This conduit will pass from the thermostat position down the wall, with a wide radius bend into the screed. If possible the conduit will be situated 2m in from the wall, the conduit end must always be accessible, this is to allow for the sensor probe to be inserted or removed for servicing etc. This conduit may be partially recessed/grooved into the sub-floor, to allow a minimum screed thickness over the heating. For further information regarding the sensor probes see the Thermostat Specifications.

  • The Site Electrical Contractor must insert the sensor probe, (which is located in the Thermostat box) into the conduit. The sensor must then be connected to the Thermostat. This conduit must remain accessible for the future removal of the sensor probe, if required for servicing.

  • Contactors are supplied for individual zones were the loads are greater then the current carrying capacity of the thermostats supplied.

  • All heating systems must be connected to a 30 mA Residual Current Device.

Thermostat locations should be supplied in writing, no less than 10 days before the installation of any cables is required. If these are not received in time, we will position the cold tails at our discretion. If any re-location of the cold tails is required, this will be done on a 'do and charge' basis. A written work order is required prior to commencement of any rectification work.
